USPS Soda Fountain Favorites Stamps

Outside Elliston Place Soda ShopUSPS Soda Fountain FavoritesJust in time for summer fun, the U.S. Postal Service is releasing a delicious set of stamps of soda fountain favorites. I wonder if the stamp designers considered adding flavors to each stamp?

To add to the fun, Nashville’s classic Elliston Place Soda Shop was selected as the first-day-of-issue launch site for a new postage stamp series called “Soda Shop Favorites.” It is one of the few places left that serve all five desserts featured on the stamps.

Stamp collectors attending the first-day-of-issue kickoff received a special cancellation designed to look like the soda shop’s neon sign, along with a sundae and of course a cherry on top.

The soda shop is Nashville’s oldest restaurant that has continuously operated in its original location. It was first a drugstore and later became its own business in 1939. The tiled walk in front of the door has the inscription “Elliston Pharmacy”

So, the next time you are in Nashville, consider taking a selfie with each stamp and each of the five deserts: double-scoop ice cream cone, egg cream, banana split, root beer float and/or the hot fudge sundae. I don’t think anyone would fault you for trying all five desserts!
